  Internet Connectivity The first Tanzanian Internet service providers (ISPs) launched their services in 1996. The national regulator issued three licenses for a period of up to ten years. According to ITU's "World Telecommunication Indicators 2000/2001" there were only 218 Internet hosts in Tanzania in 1999 (USA: 53.175.956 hosts). The total number of computers came to 80.000. The UN Economic Commission for Africa estimated the number of Internet users at 3.000 for 1999 (0.94 per 10.000 inhabitants).
