Radio and TV Tanzania's telecommunication infrastructure is poor. Radio is still the most important medium in the country reaching more than 90 % of the population. The popularity of television is increasing though the broadcasts are restricted to the urban areas of Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. According to ITU's "World Telecommunication Indicators 2000/2001" there were 690.000 TV sets in Tanzania in 1999 (2,1 TV sets per 100 inhabitants).
